My name is Courtney Skeggs and I am the Manager at Sycamore House.
I have worked in childcare since 2008 and have been a Manager since 2013. I am very proud to be able to work with children in their Early Years, being an educator at the most fundamental stage in children’s lives. I believe that the first five years in a child's life are the foundations that support happiness, health, social skills, emotional intelligence and learning and development. Over 90% of brain growth occurs during this period, making the role that we play as Early Years Educators and the experiences that we facilitate extremely influential in shaping the minds of the future. Therefore I am extremely passionate about providing the highest quality of childcare and education to our children.
I have a BA (Hons) in Early Years and am currently studying towards my Foundation Degree in Management. I keep my training up to date by attending courses in the borough, working closely with our Early Years Advisory Team, as well as completing courses online. I am extremely proud to be leading our wonderful team here at Sycamore House. We are constantly striving to improve our practice, building a strong partnership with our parents and families so we can work together to achieve the best possible outcomes for children.
We occupy a large detached and refurbished nursery in Bishop’s Stortford, with our own garden and outdoor play space.
It’s hard to find a day nursery in Bishop’s Stortford - or in the surrounding towns and villages - with extensive facilities for both indoor and outdoor play. Situated on a large plot with beautiful gardens and outdoor play space, our Bishop’s Stortford nursery has both, and we’ve included lots of information about our facilities on our Our Nursery page, and lots of photos of our children at play throughout our website. ‘Thank you’ to our parents for granting their permission for us to share these photos.
Our philosophy and practice
We explain our philosophy and approach to childcare in detail on our Caring For Your Child page. I think that this is particularly important, as not every Bishop’s Stortford nursery operates in the same way. We explain our ‘Key Person Approach’ and how this enables us to know both you and your child really well – and better meet your child’s needs. We also explain how our nursery and outdoor environments contribute to your child’s development with us.
Here at Sycamore House we have a great partnership with parents – working closely to ensure that we are meeting their individual needs. I believe in creating warm, friendly environments, where children and their families feel cared for, and valued - and where they can feel at home. As children’s primary educators, the relationships we build with parents are as important as the relationships we build with their children. These relationships create a ‘home from home’ atmosphere and help children to feel safe and secure, leaving them free to immerse themselves in creative play.
We’ve included as much useful information as possible here on our website. You’ll find much of it on our Parent Information page. I believe we’re the only Bishop’s Stortford nursery to open from 7.00am – 7.00pm, Monday – Friday for 51 weeks of the year (we close during Christmas week) and offer a variety of sessions to meet most family’s individual needs - at competitive and inclusive prices. We also offer FREE childcare places for most 2 year olds – and ALL 3 and 4 year old children, and include free nappies and wipes, and nutritious ‘home cooked’ lunches and teas – the details of which are all explained on our Parent Information page.
The best day nursery in Bishop’s Stortford
Of course it’s natural to be proud of your nursery when you work with a team who strive to provide fabulous care to children every day - and I’m no exception. I truly believe that Sycamore House is the best nursery in Bishop’s Stortford. I hope that our parent testimonials bear this out.
Finally, while we regard Sycamore House as a Bishop’s Stortford nursery, we also have parents who use us from Stansted, Sawbridgeworth, Great Dunmow and the outskirts of Harlow and Ware – as well as parents living in local villages or working at Stansted Airport. You’ll find a map showing our location on our Contact Us page - as well as our contact details. If we look as though we could provide a childcare solution for you, then we’d love to see you at the nursery and show you around - so please give us a call on 01279 465097 or pop in to see us, and meet our team.
